Case Study Of Anger Management - 1481 Words

Anger Management Case Study There are many reasons clients seek out, or are required to utilize the services offered by human service professionals. Often times, people will seek help for one issue, only to learn there are other issues that need to be addressed if a solution is to be achieved. Woodside and McClam (2015) stated human service helpers and professionals should always approach client issues with the expectation that the client, as a â€Å"whole person†, will require assistance with more than one issue if that client is to fully realize deliverance. It is the intention of this paper, utilizing the case of 24-year old Isaiah, who has been arrested for domestic violence against his girlfriend, to assist Jane, a mental health†¦show more content†¦Second, whether he is inclined to admit it or not, Isaiah is emotionally distraught with the fact he is, not only in very bad legal trouble, but he is also facing the possible loss of the woman he loves and his job at the same time. And thir dly, Isaiah is facing both a loss of income from not only being suspended, but the potential of a total loss of employment coupled with legal fees and the cost of counseling. All of these issues mixed together, no doubt, have Isaiah in a state where counseling alone would most likely be ineffective since it is virtually impossible for Isaiah to focus on one thing alone. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs There is much research that has been done into the order in which the needs of individuals must be met if one is to achieve full understanding of one’s self. Woodside and McClam (2015) stated Abraham Maslow developed a scale, or pyramid that demonstrates how basic needs, such as housing, food, and water must be met, forming the base of the pyramid, before the individual can or will ever strive to reach higher needs and eventually self-actualization. Isaiah, in this case, must have his basic needs met before Jane will ever have success in helping Isaiah reach the level of self-actualization. Understanding that Jane is a professional in her field, she will most likely help Isaiah find shelter in a place that will be suitable for the short-term. Bertrand and Cournot Competition Comparison Free Essays

Within the realm of industrial economics, a central focus is on equilibrium in oligopoly models, and the questions arise of how the firms would find the equilibrium and whether they will choose it. The efforts of this essay are devoted to a discussion of Court and Bertrand models of competition, two fundamental single-period models that form the basis for multi-period models (Friedman, 1977). Firstly the essay will give an introduction to the properties of the Court and Bertrand models of intention and examine their implications to the relationship between structure and performance. We will write a custom essay sample on Bertrand and Cournot Competition Comparison or any similar topic only for you Order Now Then it will theoretically address the question that when and how we can choose either of these two models to better describe a market, and empirically distinguish between two models by giving example industries that behave according to each. Finally the essay will draw a conclusion. Oligopoly theory abstracts from the complexity of real-life corporate strategy, and concentrates on Just one or two strategic variables (Davies et al, 1991). Court (1838) takes the view tat the firm ¤ass strategic variable is squatty or output. In contrast, Bertrand (1883) takes the view that the firm ¤ass basic strategic variable is price. In order to capture the distinction between the Court and Bertrand framework, we will consider the simplest case of homogeneous products. First, given positive market share, firms in Court market have the market power to price higher than their marginal costs. Second, the market power of a firm is limited by the market elasticity of demand. The more elastic demand, the lower the price-cost margin. Furthermore, given that all the firms are price takers, firms with lower marginal cost will have greater markets shares. Then what is the implication for the relationship between structure and performance guarding the industry as a whole? Turning to this aspect, summing the average price-cost margin follows summing individuals firms over all n firms weighting each firm ¤ass margin by its share of the market, Where H denote Heralding index, which is one of the most widely accepted measures of concentration. If we use concentration as the measure of industry structure and price-cost margin as the measure of performance, we can see that in Court competition, the less elastic is demand, and the larger is the Heralding index, the greater aggregate margin in the Court Nash equilibrium. Also, the market power (Unmans, 1962)), this indicates the importance of barriers to entry. In 1883, Bertrand criticized Court ¤ass work on several counts. One of these was that if the strategic variable is price rather than quantity, Court ¤ass logic results in an entirely different outcome (Friedman, 1977). In the Bertrand framework each firm directly controls the price at which it sells it output, and the demand for its output will depend on the price set by each firm 3 and the amount that they wish to sell at that price. This model is driven by the assumption that the firm that charges the lowest price can capture marginal cost in the market, it can charges a price I pi? ±ii = I pi? ±ii pi? ±ii pi? ±ii pi? ±0  ¤00 I poi pipe, where c] is the marginal cost the entire market (Walden and Jensen, 2001). Given this assumption, if firm I has the lowest of the firm that has the second lowest marginal cost in the industry, and I poi pipe represents a number that is infinitesimally greater than O. Then firm I will capture the entire market. In the case that each firm face an identical marginal cost, each firm will set its rice pi equal the marginal cost, and yields a competitive equilibrium. The discussion about Bertrand framework tells a very different story of the relationship between structure, conduct, and performance from the Court-Nash equilibrium. First, only the most efficient firm will survive the competition and become the monopolist, the other firms will exit the market. Second, if all firms face the identical marginal cost, with two or more firms the competitive outcome occurs, large numbers (which is the case in Court competition) are not necessary. Clearly, there is a big difference whether the strategic variable is price or quantity. Therefore, what criteria do we have for choosing between Court or Bertrand model to describe a market? A common argument for the Court model is more appropriate is that it captures the intuition that competition decreases with fewer firms, while the prediction of the Bertrand model  ¤00 a zero price-cost margin with two or more firms, or only one firm exists as the monopolist  ¤00 is implausible. In the world, examples like many consumer goods markets have shown that it is hard to find all consumers want to buy from the firm charging the lowest price, and small price hangs by a firm lead to small changes in its sales and in the sales of its rivals (Friedman, 1977). Also, it is often argued that the choice of Court and Bertrand lies in the relative flexibility of prices and output. In the Court framework, once chosen, outputs are fixed, while the price is flexible. In the Bertrand framework, however, firms set prices while output is 4 quantities (Davies et al, 1991), and therefore the Court framework is preferred to the Bertrand framework. An influential work coloring this view is Krebs and Chainman (1983). In their two-stage model, firms choose capacities in the first tags, and compete with price as in the Bertrand model up to the capacity chosen in the first stage. The resultant equilibrium turns out to be equivalent to the standard Court model. There do have some industries where firm ¤ass behavior is consistent with the intuition of Bertrand model. In the American airline industry, many major carriers follow a policy of pricing near marginal cost on routes on which it faces competition (Walden and Jensen, 2001). They fear that if their fares are even slightly higher than the competitor, they will lose virtually the entire market share. However, Brander and Ghana (1990) also found evidence that the pricing behavior of American Airlines and United Airlines between 1984 and 1988 were close to the Court model ¤ass prediction. In addition, Await (1974) found that in the Japanese flat-glass industry the two duopolistic behave according the the Court competition. In conclusion, this essay has compared and contrasted the main properties of Court and Bertrand models of competition, clearly the two models tell completely different stories of oligopolies competition as well as the relationship between structure and performance. The essay has also discussed when and which of the two oodles are expected to be better describe a market, both theoretically and with empirical examples. The Taming Of The Shrew William Shakespeare (1564-1616) Essays

The Taming of the Shrew William Shakespeare (1564-1616) The Taming of the Shrew William Shakespeare (1564-1616) Type of Work: Dramatic, farcical comedy Setting Warwickshire, England and Padua, Italy; sixteenth century Principal Characters Christopher Sly-an indolent, fat tinker Baptisa Minola-a rich Italian gentlemen Bianca-his refined, youngest daughter Katherine-his sharp-tongued, eldest daughter Gremio-Bianca's rich and elderly suitor Hortensio-Bianca's other suitor Petruchio-Hortensio's friend Lucentio-a rich and colorful gentlemen Tranio-Lucentio's servant Story Overveiw The hostess of the inn bellowed at the drunken tinker, berating him for the glasses he had burst and threatening to call the constable. "Let him come", mumbled Christopher Sly as he slid under a stool and began to snore. The hostess shook her fist and ran out. At that moment, in strode a gallently plumed lord with his servants. The lord was a mischievous sort, and he, deciding that it would be an excellant joke to change this swinish drunkard slumpled at his feet into a lord, ordered his servants to drag the man to his mansion, wash him, dress him in fine apparel, and lay him in the richest chamber. The company set off to do the lord's bidding. Chirtopher Sly awoke. He blinked in the light of the magnificent room in which he found himself. He was sitting on a mountain of cushions;servants bowed to him in honor. Think this all must be the work of strong drink-as was often the case-he cried for more ale. When he was served all matter of food and drink, he objected, complaining that he was a simple tinker unaccustomed to such fare. As their lord had intructed them, the servants informed him that Chirstopher Sly did not exist; that he was indeed a lord who had awakened from a bad dream. Next, accompanied by a sultry music, in danced the new lord's pageboy (wife), with bosoms as large as a pair of oranges. Straightway, the tinker-lord wanted to carry her off to bed; but the servants insisted he must gaurd his strength, for he had been ill many weeks. So the ardent husband was forced to sit modestly by his bride and watch a play. As he watched, he became tranfixed by the dream-like drama that unfolded before his eyes: In Padua, an old Italian town, lived rich old Baptista Minola and his two daughters. The youger girl, Bianca, was an angel from heaven;the elder, Katherine, was a scourge from the "other place", with a mustard-hot temper and a sizzling tongue to match. Katherine had no suitors, while Bianca had two, which posed a problem for their father. Baptista would not allow the younger Bianca to marry unless someone took Katherine off his hands first-but surely it would "snow in hell" before any man married such a shrew!. Baptista pled with Bianca's two suitors, elderly money-bag, Gremio and the younger Hortensio, to consider, instead, his eldest daughter. They vigorously shook their heads. The resigned father the charged them to fin a tutor for his cherished young Bianca and hurried into the house, leaving the hapless pair to the mercies of Kathrine. They soon conceded that if either wished to woo gentle Bianca, they must find a husband for her scolding sister. Two strangers from pisa had witnessed this family scene. One, Lucentio, had fallen in love with Bianca at first glimpse, and he caught upon the idea of becoming her tutor. When his servant Tranio remined him that he had business errands in Padua for his father, Lucentio convinced Tranio to trade places with him. He would be two places at once-on business in the name of Lucentio, and as lover-tutor in the name of Tranio. The two exchanged clothes, and Lucentio stood transformed into a humble schoolteacher, while Tranio, in his master's wonderful raiment, became a wealthy merchant. Meanwhile, Hortensio, still pondering possible ploys to marry off Katherine, encountered an old friend from Verona, Petruchio, who expressed a desire "to wive it wealthily in Padua." Hortensio impulsively alluded to Katherine, but then squelched the idea; he could not wish such a women on his friend. But amazingly, the thought of a spirited heiress was to Petruchio's liking, and Hortensio at last agreed to help him meet Katherine. In return, he asked Petruchio to recommend a schoolmaster for Bianca-who would, of course, be Hortensio himself, in disguise. Then came Gremio, with a schoolmaster of his own to present to baptista-the starry eyed Luccentio. Behind them sauntered colorful Tranio, also on his devious way to woo Bianca-in his master's name. As the beaus lined up to vie for Bianca's love, each agreed to pay an allotted amount to Petruchio for removing the impediment-Katherine- that blocked their contest for lovely Bianca. Petruchio, money in his pocket, beamed with joy. Baptista

The Winning Formula for Writing Success

The Winning Formula for Writing Success The Winning Formula for Writing Success The Winning Formula for Writing Success By Mark Nichol When I wrote the heading for today’s post, I thought to myself, â€Å"I should be making infomercials and workshop presentations, offering my ‘secret’ for a thousand dollars.† A thousand dollars a head for even a few dozen participants? That’s what I call successful writing: With one phrase and a few platitudes, I could take a couple of years off from work. Nah. I’ll give it to you free of charge: Quality requires quantity. Yes? And? That’s it. Quality requires quantity. Oh, all right. I’ll expound. That’s a layered statement, one that’s as deep as you want to dive. But on its most basic level, it means that an output of high quality must be preceded by an input of high quantity. In other words, a return of quality takes an investment of quantity. The new publishing model is that, thanks to the Internet, everyone’s a writer. That’s the good news. But it’s also the bad news, because it means that because many writers in this suddenly expanded universe are not highly qualified, the universe is degraded. There have always been less-than-stellar writers, but it was more difficult for them to publish their work and sustain success. Now, however, nonprofessional writers can be forgiven for believing that because it’s easy to type, it’s easy to write. And the remaining exemplars of great writing are lost in the leveling of the signal-to-noise ratio if they are sought out at all anymore. The brave new world of formal publishing is also degraded, in this case by a business model that no longer values quality because remember, quality requires quantity (and quantity, of course, requires financial investment). So now, I can find six typographical errors stuffed into a twenty-word caption in the website for a major metropolitan newspaper (since corrected because, hey, it’s the instant Internet, and we can always fix it later!), and I can find my enjoyment of a newly published book compromised by shoddy editing (improvement of which must wait for the second edition, if there is one, and if there is the wherewithal to improve it but that’s too late for me). That’s why I may come across as a dinosaur about these things, because I believe that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing well. And because I believe that, that’s why I’m proud to remain part of the old-school old guard, editing book manuscripts for publishers willing to spend time, effort, and especially money to ensure that their products reflect their high standards. Quality requires quantity. Oh, quality is sometimes accidentally produced with a minimum of quantity, but standards cannot rely on serendipity. The work ethic is called that for a reason: Good isn’t easy. It takes effort. Quality requires quantity. There’s at least one other layer to the formula. Last week, I wrote a post about another formula, what I call a writing-competence matrix. Rather than explain it here, I invite you to read the post, if you haven’t already, or to review it, if you have. Go ahead. I’ll wait. What does it take to score high on this matrix? Don’t expect to ever hit â€Å"Expert† on all three counts; many successful writers may excel in only one category. But to rate highly in even one area takes time. Remember the 10,000-Hour Rule? (That’s all right. I’ll still be here when you get back.) If you want to be a great writer, be content at first with endeavoring to be a good writer. Great can wait. But to become a good writer, you must invest quantity in your quest for quality quantity of time and effort. And you must be willing to labor not only longitudinally, putting in years of skill development, but also latitudinally, massaging, refining, and polishing each piece of writing along the way. Remember this truism: If it’s easy, you’re probably not doing it right. Quality requires quantity. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Nutri Natural, Herbal, and Vitamin Supplements Research Paper

Nutri Natural, Herbal, and Vitamin Supplements - Research Paper Example The competition is what poses the greatest threat to entrants in the market as they have to consider bridging any gaps between what the consumer wants and what is being provided for them in the market. Unfortunately, more organizations in the market translate to the consumer having more bargaining power, which is never a good thing for the company. The paper seeks to identify the competition that will face Nutri Natural, Herbal, and Vitamin Supplements as it enters the market. It is fair to say that there is no single market that is not prone to competition. Naturally, an investor identifies a consumer need and develops a product that will satisfy the need. Later, the demand for the commodity increases and the company makes increased profits. As other investors note the growing demand, they develop their own version of the products. More investors join the market flooding it and bringing more choices to the consumer. Eventually, only those manufacturers that have a competitive edge r emain in business or make any profit. Nutri’s entry to the market will face stiff competition from popular manufacturers of food supplements and vitamins. These competitors include but are not limited to Bayer, Seven Seas, Bayenica, and Boots (Leah 10). Internet use has become widespread over the past decade. However, not every company has utilized the full potential of using the internet to market its products. The advent of social media has made online marketing more effective as a platform for companies to use to create awareness of the products offered. A company that takes advantage of every opportunity they have to market their goods becomes the best possible way to remain competitive and thus profitable. Nutri is aiming to take full advantage of what technology offers companies and will be using an online platform to sell the supplements.

Reasons for Choosing to Become a WGU Student Essay

Reasons for Choosing to Become a WGU Student - Essay Example Not only I worked intensely, but I also had to pay the bills and take all kinds of loads an independent man does. I conducted a thorough research and found that no college’s classes matched my schedule. I had to leave the work in order to pursue further education, which was clearly not a practicable option for me. Therefore, I started searching for courses in online education. Distance education was increasingly being adopted as a way to advance the academic career. I also thought about doing the same, though I had mixed feelings about it. I knew it would allow me to acquire a bachelors degree as I felt convenient, but doubted whether such a degree would be valued by the employers. Besides, choosing the best online university from among a myriad of options was another challenge confronting me. I started browsing ads online and checking people’s opinions and suggestions both online and otherwise. My research led me to the conclusion that most of the online universities l acked regional accreditation, were quite expensive for the students and their graduates were still not liked at large. Finally, a friend of mine suggested me to search about the Western Governors University (WGU), saying that WGU was not only accredited regionally, but was also quite affordable and suitable for me considering the situation I was in. Initially I took it as a regular advice and didn’t expect much. But as I conducted a little research, I happened to find that the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities had accredited WGU, which was itself accredited by CHEA. A number of other schools were accredited by the same organization. Such schools included but were not limited to Brigham Young, Lewis & Clark, and the University of Oregon. While reviewing the bachelor’s degree in IT at WGU, I found that WGU offered nine certifications many of which were more than sufficient for an individual to acquire a high-paying job of a technician in my area. As my fr iend had said, WGU was really affordable. All I had to pay was $5780 a year in two installations, each of which was for six months. Therefore, WGU not only provided me with a way to attend the school as per my convenience, but also have more time for leisure activities as it saved me a lot of money that would otherwise have been consumed in paying the fee of another school. The most fascinating characteristic feature of WGU was that it offered classes at 3am, unlike any brick and mortar school I knew. Message for my friend Just like one very sincere friend of mine solved this issue for me, I would like to introduce WGU to you so that the positive message is spread and more and more people can benefit from the tremendous opportunities WGU has to offer. If you are looking for a reputable degree from a regionally accredited school, and also want to continue your full time job with it without having to bear too large a cost in the name of fee, WGU is one school that can provide you with all of these. By recommending you WGU, I am saving you all the headache and waste of time that I had incurred while searching for a good school. I assure you that you will not regret to choose to study in WGU. You may look for the kind of certificates WGU issues in the discipline of your interest and see if they suffice the requirements for job eligibility in your area, which they most probably would! It is a complete package for the ones looking for a practicable option to advance their career

Progeria - Hutchinson-Gilford Syndrome Essay -- genetic childhood dis

Progeria, otherwise known as Hutchinson-Gilford syndrome is an extremely rare, genetic childhood disorder with a reported incidence of about one in a million. Hutchinson reported the syndrome in 1886 when he found the first patient with Progeria. In 1904 Gilford described a second case of Progeria, thus creating the term to reflect the syndrome’s senile features. There are only about a hundred reported cases since the disorder has been discovered over a century ago. Currently, there are about thirty to forty known cases worldwide of Progeria. Affected children age up to seven times faster, have â€Å"plucked bird† appearance, many health problems and their lifespan is about thirteen years. There is neither known cause nor cure for this disease. It is usually first diagnosed based only on appearance and treatment is given for other conditions associated with the aging process rather the disease it self.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Effected children usually appear normal at birth. But within the first year of life severe changes come into accordance. These include: baldness and bodily hair loss, including eyebrows and eyelashes; â€Å"skin wrinkling accompanied by pigmented age spots; [†¦] unusually high pitched voice; undeveloped or underdeveloped sexual maturation; bone lesions, often resulting in fractures and hip dislocation† (Livneh, Antonak and Maron, 1995, p.434). Death usually occurs between the age of twelve and thirteen and it is due to â€Å"cardiovascular deterioration and generally includes arthrosclerosis, myocardial infraction and congestive heart failure (Livneh, Antonak and Maron, 1995, p.434).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The cause of Progeria is unknown as of yet. Because of its very rare nature, no definite cause can be pinpointed. However it is determined to be generic. In other words, it is thought that it is due to single mutated gene and each case might represent a single sporadic new mutation, which happens at conception. Therefore, as mentioned above, the diagnosis must be made solely on the appearance.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  During my Internet research on this subject, I have found a real story of a thirteen-year-old girl, named Ashley. Her story captured my heart and I would like to use Ashley as an example in helping to understand the disease, its progress and how it affects people involved. Ashley was born on May 23, 1991 as what it seemed a normal and healthy baby girl. In July 1991 doctors disco... ...f the disease and death to help cope and adapt properly. General intervention recommendations can focus on; the child’s needs, other family members and the parents. Other intervention can address social issues such as spirituality, emotionality, coping modes and adaptation techniques. It is very hard to say to a parent of a dying child that any of the above might help a broken heart, however, professional help, understanding and loving environment and family might ease the hardships of loosing one’s child, sibling or a friend. Boy Band Bash

Remember New Edition? You know you do.. the â€Å"Mr. Telephone Man† song.. Bobby Brown and those kooky guys known as Bell Biv and DeVoe.. I know you remember the late 80's.. 1988, 89. New Kids On The Block were like, the boy band du jour. But alas, the 90's rolled around and heavier grunge music like Nirvana and Soundgarden, as well as a heavier, edgier rap such as Ice Cube and Snoop Doggy Dog took over the music scene.. Thus ends our tale Somewhere along the lines, while rap and R&B maintained their power, rock music lost a bit of theirs, letting pop music creep back into the scene. I suppose that the Spice Girls can carry some blame for that by being the first pop group to get out there, and while there are a couple of Spice Girl clones, they aren't as prevalent as the boy bands that followed. 1998 had unleashed a torrent of boy bands on the US, many of whom spent time in Europe to start a cult following. The following is a run down of the Boy Bands that have left Unless you've been living under a rock, the Orlando based group, Backstreet Boys reigned supreme as the top Boy Band in 1998. With the top selling album in 1998 behind Titanic, the Backstreet Boys have just released a new album and are planning a second world tour. The band enjoyed 4 top 10 singles in 1998, including â€Å"As Long as You Love Me†, â€Å"Everybody (Backstreet's Back)†, â€Å"I'll Never Break You Heart†, and â€Å"Quit Playing Games (With my Heart)†. Their world tour pulled in $10 million. The middle of 1998 brought a lawsuit between the band and Lou Pearlman. While the details of the settlement has not been released, it resulted in the dismissal of their management team, Donna & Johnny Wright, with Lou Pearlman being named a partner with the Backstreet Boys for 1/6 of the action. Pearlman's Trans-Continental Records is still in legal entanglements with the Backstreet Boys's label, Jive/Zomba. This may or may not be one of the reasons why Trans-Continental began promoting ‘N Sync, a replica of the Backstreet Boys, more aggressively For better or for worse, the fans are happy that ‘N Sync, another Orlando based band, left their mark in 1998. With their self titled album the 22nd topselling album of the year (with 4 million albums sold since it's release last March), and Top Ten Christmas album, the group is also enjoying the success of three top ten singles, â€Å"Tearin' Up My Heart†, â€Å"I Want You Back†, and â€Å"(God Must Have Spent) A Little More Time On You†. Their current single, â€Å"I Drive Myself Crazy†, is climbing the charts. Their success proves that there's plenty of love (and money) to go around at the top of the music chart. Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync's album have switched positions in the top many times in the last months of 1998. Not to be left out, the original managers for the Spice Girls have formed another group, Five. With top selling singles, â€Å"When The Lights Go Out† and â€Å"Everybody Get Up†, the five lads from England wandered into the U. S. st October. While the reception has been warm, their success in Europe will keep them in the the limelight for an aggressive promotion Breaking away from the pre-packaged format of boy bands, 98 Degrees, like ‘N Sync, packaged themself and went in search of management. The band snuck backstage at a Boyz II Men concert and the result was a manager in the form of Paris D'Jon. With their first album behind them, 1998 had these Ohio native recording â€Å"True to Your Heart† for Disney's Mulan. At the end of 1998, they released their second album, â€Å"98 Degrees and Rising†. The band is now embarking on their summer tour with their Top 10 single, â€Å"Because of You†, leading the way. One of the most popular boy band in the U. K. has barely made a mark in the United States. Despite a million dollar campaign last August, the group has barely touched the U. S. Billboard charts. Boyzone is one of the oldest, both in term of longevity and age of the members, of the boy bands. However, the designation may be a misnomer. All of the guys are all over 26, and one of whom has a son. The fact that they don't quite fit into the cookie cutter mold of a boy and may be the reason they haven't done as well in the U. S. The more likely reason, though, is that the label doesn't quite know how to pigeonhole Boyzone into their carefully constructed While most of the current crop of boy bands have been around for several years (even if U. S. fans haven't heard of them until now), the recording industry is preparing for the future; hoping the trend can sustain itself. The trend has so far been proven successful, Joey McIntyre and Jordon Knight, who previously where a part of New Kids On The Block, have recently became hits. Also, former Mannuedo star, Ricky Martin has rose again with his smash hit, â€Å"Livin La Vida Loca. 1999 will prove to be an interesting year, as the industry watch to see if the Meanwhile fans continue to flock to sold out shows to see their favorite members of the Backstreet Boys or ‘N Sync. Teenagers driven by hormones into their first crush, enjoy collecting pictures of their favorite members. Is this a plan to brainwash teenage girls into buying millions of CD's, created by Lou Pearlman, king of Boy Bands? Just like how many licks it takes to get to the bottom of the Tootsie Pop, â€Å"The World May Never Know. â€Å"

Identifying And Surveying F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great...

Whilst analysing and surveying F. Scott Fitzgerald s fulfilling and creative way of writing, I present to you today the body of work in the context of the writers time, discussing and paying attention to the social, historical, cultural and political discourses within the text. F.Scott Fitzgerald constructs a variety of truths throughout the novel, the two truths that where clearly noticeable where â€Å"The American dream† and â€Å"Old and New Money† which greatly supported the normalities of the era, these two topics will be discussed later in the piece. But let s start by recapping a brief understanding that is this novel. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby is a classic about the desire for love and money and how they both affect†¦show more content†¦During the 1920 s, not only was there a change in the American Dream, but also a change in America itself. There are characters in Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby that buys into th e idea of the American Dream of money buys happiness, however their unhappiness reveals the novel’s critique of the shift in the American Dream towards the end of the novel. (Slide 2) The American dream is the American overlook on an ideal happy and successful life, F.Scott Fitzgerald constantly refers to this, in chapter 1 spoken by Nick Caraway. â€Å"He stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and, far as I was from him, I could have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily I glanced seaward, and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of a dock.† The green light shown at the end of the dock is a symbol related entirely to a dream, a dream that Gatsby will finally be reunited with his love Daisy, this dream is much like that of the American dream and to attain her would accomplish Gatsby’s ‘American Dream’. The American dream, that a hard working person will always lead one from rags to riches. Gatsby symbolises both the corrupted dream and the original uncorrupted dream. He sees wealth as a solution for all his problems but never seems to look at the big picture, as Daisy is slowly slipping away from him he finally
